What the PMP exam covers in 2026
PMI launched a new PMP exam on July 9, 2026, built on a new Examination Content Outline (ECO). The three domains stayed, but their weights changed sharply:
| Domain | 2026 ECO weight | Previous (2021) weight |
|---|---|---|
| People | 33% | 42% |
| Process | 41% | 50% |
| Business Environment | 26% | 8% |
Business Environment more than tripled. Expect many more questions on governance, compliance, benefits realization, and organizational change. Roughly 60% of questions reflect agile or hybrid approaches. The questions in this test follow PMBOK 8 terminology; their domain mix is closer to the older weighting, so spend extra review time on Business Environment. Confirm current details on PMI's PMP certification page before you book.
How to use this practice test
- Answer as PMI would, not as your company would. The "right" answer is usually the one that addresses root cause, engages stakeholders, and follows the agreed process before escalating.
- Watch the approach cues. Words like "sprint", "backlog", or "product owner" signal an agile answer; "baseline" and "change control board" signal predictive. See agile vs predictive vs hybrid.
- Drill the calculation questions with the earned value formulas guide, and the chart questions with the visual tools flashcards.
- Review every explanation. Situational questions repeat their patterns more often than their wording.
PMP exam FAQ
How many questions are on the PMP exam?
180 questions. Some are unscored pretest items mixed in with the scored ones, and you can't tell which are which.
What is the PMP passing score?
PMI doesn't publish a fixed passing percentage. You receive a performance rating for each domain (Above Target, Target, Below Target, Needs Improvement) and an overall pass or fail result.
Does PMBOK 8 change what I need to study?
Yes. PMBOK 8 reorganized the principles and performance domains, and exam items use its vocabulary. See PMBOK 8 vs 7: what changed and applying PMBOK 8's six principles.
Are these real PMP exam questions?
No. They're original situational questions written to practice PMI's reasoning style. Sharing real PMP exam content violates PMI's certification policies.
